Summer Newsletter 2017
"And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer."
~F. Scott Fitzgerald
This edition of the newsletter talks about their new reading program in Santa Fe, NM. Patients are loaned three books a week to read and can participate in a reading club on Sundays to discuss what they have read. If has apparently been a big hit. They also request donations for used, good condition books.
The staff spotlight in this edition is written by Mina Lopez, Sioux Falls HR Manager, and about Mrs. Caroline Harving. She is a nurse at the Sioux Falls facility. A patient tried to escape and she spent hours talking to him until he was ready to peacefully come back to his room. She has been with LFoA for 14 years.
At the closing of this newsletter is a Did You Know? by Ms. Know-It-All.
To crack a whip, a section of the whip must be travelling faster than the speed of sound - this creates a small sonic boom, which accounts for the cracking noise. The creation of the sonic boom was confirmed in a 1958 study, where scientists analyzed high-speed shadow photography of a whip cracking.
