Progestin
Uses:
- Hormonal contraception (either alone or with estrogen)
- To prevent endometrial hyperplasia from unopposed estrogen in hormone replacement therapy
- As antiandrogens (testosterone blockers)
- Antigonadotropins (decrease the levels of androgen, estrogen, and progestogen sex steroid in the body
- Cachexia to increase lean body mass by increasing appetite for people with cancer
- Was approved as first oral contraceptive in United States in 1960 called Enovid
Estradiol
Uses:
- Mainly used in hormone replacement therapy during menopause
- Can be used as a cancer treatment for men and women
- Was first marketed in United States in 1943 for oral contraceptive use and called Estinyl
