The knots to know print, coupled with Jasper's letter, has a cypher. The following times are listed randomly in Jasper's letter:

• Four past two
• Five of ten
• One on the dot
• Two past one
• Twelve past seven

Using the knots to know chart we first find the knot number listed as the time. The first time is listed as four past two. So we find the 2nd knot (two o'clock), the first letter of that knots name is B (Bowline). So we will shift the alphabet four letters past (four past two) the letter B and come to the letter F. So B=F.

Next, we have the time of five of ten (five before ten) so we find the knot that is numbered 10 (10 o'clock): Fisherman's Knot. We will shift the alphabet five spaces back (five before ten) for the letter F (fisherman's) and come to the letter A. So F=A.

Next, we have the time of one on the dot. So we find the first knot on the list: Clove hitch. This one does not get shifted because it does not have a time change. So C=C.

Next, we have the time of two past one so we use the same Clove Hitch again but this time we will shift the alphabet forward two spaces from C and get to the letter E. So C=E.

Lastly, we have a time of twelve past seven. The 7th knot is the Harness Hitch. So we shift forward 12 spaces in the alphabet from H and get to the letter T. So H=T.
